Demarest — Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone has endorsed Dennis Shulman for Congress. Shulman, a Demarest resident and fellow democrat, is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District. He has lived in that district for 25 years.
"I find so much to admire in Dennis’ story and message," Pallone said in a statement. "Residents of northern New Jersey deserve much better representation than what they are getting from Scott Garret. Dennis’ passionate willingness to fight for hardworking families, to end the war in Iraq and to address critical environmental issues is exactly what we need to defeat Congressman Garrett this fall."
Shulman has been blind since childhood, but was able to have a successful academic career. He graduated from Worcester Academy in Massachusetts on a full scholarship. He also graduated at the top of his class in 1972 from Brandeis University, then graduated from Harvard University with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and public practice. Shulman was ordained as a rabbi in 2003.
"I am humbled to have earned the support of a leader like Congressman Pallone," Shulman said in a statement. "Congressman Pallone’s continuing support will be a real boost to our efforts to bring my message of change to the voters of northern New Jersey."
Shulman supports a phased redeployment out of Iraq while providing essential equipment to existing troops. He believes the U.S. should implement all the 9/11 Commission recommendations and put a priority on finding Osama bin Laden. Shulman hopes to improve access to healthcare, lower its cost and improve medical research.
