An Englewood teen was arrested April 9 after he was mingling with a rowdy crowd outside a popular deli then ran from police.
Officers responded to Jordan’s Deli at the corner of West Englewood and Park avenues at about 8:15 p.m. to find a crowd of 20 to 25 people gathered outside, Detective Capt. Steven Sabo said.
According to Sabo, when the officers got out of their car, they heard someone in the crowd tell a man, "What are you gonna [sic] do, shoot him in front of them [the police]."
Police said that man was Jonathan Nunnally, 19, of Englewood. Police said Nunnally started walking away when he saw the officers.
Suspecting that the crowd had gathered to see what could have erupted into a violent fight, officers asked Nunnally to stop because they believed he had a weapon.
But instead the 19-year-old ran down Brookway Avenue. Officers chased after him, following close behind.
The chase continued as Nunnally threw a knife to the ground. Officers caught up to Nunnally and arrested him on Brookway.
Nunnally was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, obstructing justice and tampering with evidence, all as a result of the chase and knife.
He was held in Bergen County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
