Borough officials are looking for Closter organizations to use this cabin in Mollicone Park, which has been used by local Girl Scouts for 50 years.

Recently the scouts have struggled with the financial burden of maintaining the cabin that was built for them roughly 52 years ago.

At last week’s council meeting lawmakers discussed possibly giving the cabin to the Closter Boy Scouts who would also let the Northvale Boy Scouts use it. However, some council members thought organizations in Closter should be given first priority.

"As it is a Closter facility there may be another Closter organization that could make use of the space," Councilman David Barad said.

Mayor Sophie Heymann is concerned that by relinquishing the cabin to another organization, the Girl Scouts would lose the cabin that was intended for them.

"The Girl Scouts do have first dibs at it since the deed is still in their name and it was built for them. But it is available so we can evaluate other uses," Heymann said.

Barad said, "Any arrangement that comes up we can require the Girl Scouts still are a part of it."

The American Legion was mentioned as another organization that could use the building.
