Bid proposals for a new police station will be due April 15, according to Tenafly’s municipal Web site.
Police Chief Michael Bruno is looking forward to the construction of the new building and said it’s been a long-time coming since the initial talks began in 2002.
Once the bids are received, the Police Department will need time to determine whom to award the bid to based on several factors including cost and experience. Bruno is optimistic that Police Department will receive some good bids and have a nice selection to choose from.
The proposed building will more than double in size compared to the existing headquarters and will see additions in 18 areas including separation between private, public and secure areas, a computerized dispatching center and an armory with an electronic weapons cleaning system. The changes are necessary in order to accommodate the growth of staff, several state mandates for municipal detention facilities and higher quality workplace.
"As far as the town is concerned, it’s going to give their police department a better place to work which will allow us to do our jobs more effectively," Bruno said.
