SEEK, a citizen organization formed in 2003 to recruit qualified candidates for the Englewood Board of Education, has recommended three candidates for the April 15 school board election. The group has chosen George C. Garrison III, Dr. Jerry D. Lamb and Margaret Mora.

SEEK stands for Supporters of Education for Englewood’s Kids. Its founder, Norman Davis, said the group has been successful with its recommendations. "Now seven of the nine school board members were chosen by our group. As of April, we will have all nine because the other people are not running for re-election," he said.

The three candidates SEEK chose to recommend on Feb. 10 are running unopposed. The incumbents, Shirley Smith and David Matthews, will not be on the ballot next month. Davis said Matthews didn’t file and Smith dropped out of the race.

Davis is pleased with what he believes is SEEK’s influence. "It had been my hope from the beginning that if we had an organization that was responsible and if we developed enough credibility, other people would decide not to run. It looks like this year, that dream has come true."
