‘Women on the Edge’ is May 17
"Women on the Edge Comedy Show" is coming to Alpine Saturday, May 17.
Women on the Edge will be held at The Alpine Community House in Alpine. Seating is on a first come basis. It is strongly recommended that tickets be purchased on line, as seats are limited.

Songwriter, Adlers tribute slated for May 17
A Tribute to the American Songwriter with live is scheduled for Saturday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m.
bergenPAC will be host the annual star studded gala, "A Tribute To The American Songwriter," with special performances, cocktails and dinner. The evening will also honor Myron and Elaine Adler.
This evening will begin with cocktails in the tent adjacent to the theater followed by live performances by Paul Anka, Felix Cavalieri and the Rascals, Ben E. King and musicians from the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra playing instruments from the Stradivarius and Guarneri collection inside the bergenPAC theater.
After the show, guest performers along with honorees will enjoy a sit down dinner in the tent.
Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra
‘Bob’ McGrath of Sesame Street in concert May 18
Spend a song-filled afternoon with "Bob" McGrath, the original music teacher from Sesame Street© and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 655 Teaneck Road.
An entertaining interactive program is planned for the entire family. Introduce the family to the magical world of the orchestra from "Rubber Duckie" to "Meet the Orchestra with Ravel’s Bolero."

Apple Cider Players
Theater group will perform May 18
Apple Cider Players theater production group, located at Woodcliff Lake Community Center at Tice Corner, 411 Chestnut Ridge Road, Woodcliff Lake, will present a benefit performance of "Annie – The Musical," exclusively for children with Autism and their families at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18.
All proceeds of this performance will be donated to MarbleJam Kids, Inc. a 501c(3) charity dedicated to serving children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. (ASD)
Currently, MarbleJam Kids is in the process of the development of an after-school enrichment program focusing on art, music and creative movement therapies for children with ASD). The goal is to build MarbleJam Enrichment Centers in Bergen County that also will provide sports, recreation and vocational therapies for special need kids and young adults.
"It is a pleasure to be able to extend our run of "Annie" for this benefit performance as we are a community-based theater group dedicated to offering entertaining, professional productions for all to enjoy," said Elayne Marks, founder and president of Apple Cider Players. "We are so happy to extend the opportunity of experiencing a live theater performance in a relaxed atmosphere for children with Autism and their families."
Apple Cider Players is a local non-profit 501c(3) New Jersey Corporation.
Harmony Celebration Chorus
Women’s a capella chorus to hold open rehearsal May 21
The Harmony Celebration Chorus, a new women’s a cappella chorus, that last month finished third overall in the local spring regional competition of Sweet Adelines International, invites music lovers to an open rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. May 21.
Guests will be treated to demonstrations of barbershop vocal craft and encouraged to learn new music and technique.
The night kicks off Harmony Celebration’s second annual membership drive. All interested female singers throughout Northern New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area are invited to attend.
The Harmony Celebration Chorus is dedicated to advancing the musical form of barbershop harmony through education and performance. Its members hail from all over Bergen and Passaic counties, as well as points as north and south.
Musical Director Scott Brannon brings 30-plus years of barbershop experience. He has been an internationally recognized chorus director and quartet singer, and a coach of many groups performing at all levels of achievement, including International Champions.

YCS Blossoms Art exhibit to run through May 22
The Fifth Annual Youth Consultation Service (YCS) Blossoms Art Exhibit will be held at bergenPAC from now through Thursday, May 22.
Selected artwork and poetry of children and teens from YCS special education schools and out reach programs will be on display in the theater's mezzanine.

Teen Poetry Slam
Monthly venue features Def Jam poets
In partnership with the youth-led New Jersey-based poetry project Slam Global Enterprises, the Puffin Cultural Forum has established a monthly venue for teens to express themselves creatively.
Last year’s inaugural season of poetry jams last year was a success with a lot of participation. The Puffin has continued to build on this success for the second season. This season will end with the final open mic Friday, May 23 at 8 p.m.
This evening will feature guest poets who have appeared on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam. There is a $5 suggested donation.
The NJ Youth Poetry S.L.A.M. (Supporting, Leading, Advocating and Mentoring) initiative was developed as an intervention and prevention program for youth directly and indirectly affected by alcohol, drugs and substance abuse, gang violence, deviant behavior and juvenile incarceration.
As an outreach effort, New Jersey Youth S.L.A.M. seeks to aide youth in developing positive self images, confidence and peer relationships; along with providing community service and youth advocacy.

‘The Prisoner of Second Avenue’ will run through June 1
The Bergen County Players Inc. is celebrating its 75th anniversary diamond jubilee season by selecting a lineup of favorite productions for the main stage representing each decade of its history.
The theater kicked off the year with Rogers and Hammerstein’s "The King and I."
The final production, "The Prisoner of Second Avenue" by Neil Simon, is set to run through June 1. Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays).
All performances take place at The Little Firehouse Theatre, 298 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell. Tickets are $19 on Fridays and Saturdays and $15 on Sundays. Second Stage tickets are $10. Student rush tickets are available for $5 for students age 25 and under with valid ID, 30 minutes prior to curtain, one ticket per ID, cash only.

Musical Theater Program offered July 1 to July 20
bergenPAC is offering a Musical Theater Workshop for intermediate and advanced performers ages nine through 17, from July 1 to 20.
The program is designed to develop performing skills on a professional level in three performances of a new musical, "Beyond Garrick Gaites," based on the life and talents of Richard Rodgers.
The musical opens on Rodgers’ first collaboration with Lorenz Hart, the Columbia University Varsity Show of 1919, which featured songs like "Mountain Greenery" and "I’ll Take Manhattan."
The duo found immediate success in the big city with their first shows, "Garrick Gaities" and "Babes in Arms," full of songs like "Johnny One Note" and "My Funny Valentine."
After their break-up, Rodgers met Oscar Hammerstein and soon became the toast of Broadway.
The workshop meets from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at bergenPAC, 30 N Van Brunt St, Englewood.
The first performance of "Beyond Garrick Gaities" is Friday, July 18 in the bergenPAC Cabaret Space. There are two more performances at the Eric Brown Theater, Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, Tenafly, Sunday, July 20.
The performers have daily workshops in acting, improv, movement and vocal skills taught by the professional staff from New York theater and JCC Performing Arts, including Amelia DeMayo, Stephen Nicholas and Anne Pasquale.
At 3:20 p.m. students are bussed to the JCC for a swim in the outdoor Olympic pool.
The fee for the three-week program is $925. Enrollment is limited to 20 performers. An audition/interview is necessary.

Two residents in Off-Broadway play
"Secrets Of A Soccer Mom," a new play by Kathleen Clark and directed by two-time Tony Award winner Judith Ivey, opened Thursday, March 20 at the Snapple Theater Center (50th Street at Broadway).
The production stars Caralyn Kozlowski and Nancy Ringham and Deborah Sonnenberg of Tenafly.
In the play, three women leave their traditional spot on the sidelines to play in the annual mother-son soccer game. This ordinary day becomes extraordinary as the competition ignites their fierce desire to recapture their spirit, humor and passion.
"Secrets Of A Soccer Mom" takes a look at a part of life that is rarely explored on stage. It speaks to everyone, no matter age or gender, in attempting to answer that age-old question: How in the world did I wind up here?
Included in the price of a ticket is a free glass of champagne before the show.
For less than the price of a Broadway ticket patrons will be able to browse through the unique theater boutique featuring a variety of rare and beautiful items, relax in lobby massage chairs, indulge in cupcakes and coffee from the Cupcake Café and enjoy a discounted lunch or dinner in one of several restaurants nearby.

Stony Point
Guided tours held at battlefield and inside lighthouse
Visitors to the Stony Point Battlefield and Lighthouse may take guided tours every weekend, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturdays and from noon to 4:30 p.m. Sundays.
A guide will lead visitors up the two ladders to the lantern room where they can see a view of the river from full-length windows. The importance of shipping traffic to New York and the nation’s economy in the 19th century will be taught. Participants can also learn about the complex system of glass prisms that aided navigation before the advancement of 20th century technology.
A $5 weekend parking fee applies. Reservations are not required. For more information call 845-786-2521.

Thrift shop benefits the Art School
Our Thrift Shop, a community-based thrift store to benefit the Art School at Old Church in Demarest, opened its doors Dec. 17. The shop was run as the Pascack Valley Hospital Thrift Shop until its doors closed Nov. 22.
Our Thrift Shop will continue to support the community as its predecessor did, by providing quality clothing items and accessories at affordable prices. Proceeds from the store will benefit the Art School at Old Church, a non-profit organization located in Demarest dedicated to improving the quality of life through art.
The additional revenue generated from the store will provide much-needed funds for the general operations of the school and gallery as well as for programs and events.
For 33 years, the Art School at Old Church has served Bergen County and beyond by offering 80 classes and workshops to adults and children, art exhibitions of established and emerging artists in its gallery, as well as artist lectures and cultural events.
Donations of gently used clothing (with hangers); winter coats and jackets; and accessories such as scarves, jewelry and pocketbooks are requested to stock the shop. Donations of books, small appliances and knick-knacks are also welcome.
