Tenafly
Register to play summer basketball
The Tenafly Recreation Summer Outdoor Basketball League is accepting team applications from boys and girls in grades seven and eight. The fee is $650 per team.
Seventh and eighth graders play from July 14 to Aug. 15.
There will be 10 regular season games, playoffs and division championship awards.
Games are played on the Tenafly outdoor courts. Rain out games are played at the Tenafly Middle School.

YMCA
Pool owners can learn to swim
This summer pool owners can take advantage of nationally renowned YMCA swim lessons in their own backyard.
From now to Aug. 15, the Ridgewood YMCA’s Backyard Pool program offers two-week sessions of eight half-hour classes.
A special one-week session of four half-hour classes, Aug. 18 to 22, finishes out the summer.
There is also a choice of time periods – 10 a.m. to noon, noon to 3 p.m. or 3 to 5 p.m. The program combines high quality swim instruction with ultimate convenience.
The Ridgewood YMCA has the largest Backyard Pool program in northern New Jersey. Instructors are highly qualified, trained and lifeguard certified. The choice of private, semi-private or small group classes maximizes learning and helps children master swimming skills. Parents find the home setting reassuring for children and convenient for them.
Early registration for Backyard Pool is recommended, as sessions fill up fast.

Boys Basketball
Norsemen camp is July 7 through 10
The 2008 Norsemen Boys Basketball Camp will be conducted in the gymnasium of Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest July 7 to 10 from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
Demarest varsity coach Bob Rudolph and assistant coach Paul Duhamel are the directors of this instructional camp, which is designed to teach young basketball players the fundamentals of the game.
Man-to-man defense, as well as help and recover defense will be demonstrated. Proper ball handling, passing and shooting skills will also be taught.
The camp is designed to meet the needs of recreational and incoming freshmen players.
Each athlete must wear sneakers, a T-shirt and gym shorts for each session and bring a lock that can be used to secure a locker that will be provided.
The camp costs $120, which includes four days of instruction and accident insurance.

Old Tappan
Golden Knights baseball camp set
Golden Knights Baseball Camp is slated for Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 11 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan.
The cost of the camp is $250.
All phases of hitting, bunting, infield play, outfield play, base running, pitching and catching will be taught. Instructional games will reinforce the teaching.
The camp is taught by NV/Old Tappan High School coaches and players and is open to players ages eight through 14.

Wakelee Field in Demarest
Baseball Fever Camp is in July
Baseball Fever Camp, which is celebrating its 21st anniversary, will be conducted Monday through Friday, July 7 through 10 and July 14 through 17 at the Wakelee Athletic Complex in Demarest.
Each year the camp provides full day instruction in all phases of the sport of baseball. Game competition is scheduled in the afternoon, which allows campers to demonstrate their skills in game-like situations.
The coaching staff has been the foundation of the camp’s success over the years. Greg Butler, a member of the N.J. State Coaches Association Hall of Fame, is camp director. Frank Eufemia, Don Bosco pitching coach and former Major League pitcher and Mike Carcich, head baseball coach at Northern Valley Demarest, serve as the camp’s program directors.
The staff features many of the top coaches in the area who provide each camper with a positive learning experience. Each year college coaches and Major League players visit Baseball Fever Camp to enhance the instruction provided at the camp.
Past professional players include members of the NY Yankees and the NY Mets. Their appearance provides each camper with an autograph and a memorable experience.

Swimming clinics scheduled in June
Victory Swimming Performance Group will be hosting a Competitive Swimming Clinic during the second and third weeks of June at the Haworth Swim Club.
The clinic is designed to teach competitive swimming technique for swimmers of all abilities, ages 8 through 13.

Youth Football
Blue & Gold camp set for July 21-25
Blue & Gold Football camp will be held July 21 to 25 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the turf field at Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan.
The Blue & Gold camp is structured to help improve the skills of the experienced players and introduce these skills to new players.
Anyone entering grades two through nine in September is eligible to attend. Campers are grouped by skill and age.
Instructors include area high school coaches and Division I, II and III college players. A certified athletic trainer will be on hand.
Tuition is $220 if registered by June 1 or $235 after June 1. Call for family discounts.

Norsemen football camp is July 28-31
The Norsemen Football Camp is a non-contact instructional camp providing each player with an opportunity to develop and improve the skills required to become a better football player.
The staff of coaches and college football players will stress the fundamentals and techniques for all offensive, defensive and kicking game positions.
The camp is designed to meet the needs of all recreation level and incoming freshmen football players and will be held at Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest - indoors in case of rain.
The cost is $175 ($165 if postmarked before June 30), which includes a T-shirt and insurance.

Teaneck
Curt’s Camp has sessions Aug. 4 and 11
Curt's Camp, a boys basketball for players in grades three through nine has scheduled two sessions at the Teaneck Recreation Center in August.
Session 1 is Aug. 4 through 8 and Session 2 is Aug. 11 through 15.
The camp is an instructional camp designed to teach young boys basketball players the fundamentals of the game.
Camp Director Curtis March, head boys basketball coach at Teaneck High School, along with his assistant coaching staff and former Teaneck High School players, will teach the latest defensive and offensive techniques.
In addition, ball handing, passing, shooting and rebounding skills will be developed, as well as proper footwork.
Teams will be organized based on age and ability level. Awards will be given at the end of each session for best sportsmanship, foul shooting, three-point shooting, most improved and for team championships.
The cost of the camp is $175 for one session and $300 for both sessions and includes accident insurance, T-shirts, awards and instruction.

ABA of N.J. wants teams and players
Adult baseball players and teams are sought for the Amateur Baseball Association of N.J. The ABA is the premier adult men's (18 and older) recreational baseball league in New Jersey.
They are a fast-growing league in Northern and Central New Jersey, which fielded 122 teams in 2007. In 2008 they will again have multiple wood and metal skill level leagues.
Included in the fees is excellent customer service, flexible master scheduling, a large player pool, seven dozen Wilson baseballs, field insurance, accidental medical insurance, equipment discounts, an All Star Game and jackets for league winners.

Sportgist.com, a sports social media company, announced that they will be awarding four monthly scholarships, a total of $3,000 each month, to outstanding high school seniors.
