Register now for July theater trip
Registration is now open for the Tenafly Senior Center’s trip to the Westchester Broadway Theater’s performance of "Beauty and the Beast" Thursday, July 3.
The $65 cost includes the show, a three-course luncheon and round trip bus transportation. Pre-paid signup is required.
Registration forms are available at the center, 20 South Summit St. in Tenafly. Space is limited.

Summer computer courses available
The SeniorNet Computer Learning Center at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, 411 East Clinton Ave. in Tenafly, is taking registration for its computer courses for seniors who are 50+. The summer session offers 10 courses in basic and advanced computer skills. This summer’s classes are as follows:
• Computer Fundamentals — A basic course that helps you become comfortable with computers. Four sessions will be held Mondays and Thursdays, July 28 to Aug. 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Introduction to Computers — Using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Works, gain an overview of creating, formatting, editing and printing documents. The first batch of seven sessions will be held Mondays, June 16 to July 28 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The second set of seven sessions will occur Tuesdays, June 17 to July 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Advanced Introduction to Computers — Expands on the topics presented in the introductory course and adds creating folders and shortcuts. Seven sessions will be held Wednesdays, June 18 to July 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Microsoft Word 2003 — Teaches how to format, enhance, delete, edit, print and save documents. Seven sessions will be held Wednesdays, June 18 to July 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Cruising the Internet — Utilizing AOL and Internet Explorer, learn the intricacies of e-mail, including attachments, hyperlinks, insert pictures, address book, thesaurus and more. Six sessions will be held Fridays, June 20 to Aug. 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No classes will be held July 4. The July 11 class will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
• Digital Photo Wonders — Learn how to capture images in digital format. Eight sessions will occur Tuesdays, June 17 to Aug. 5 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
• Microsoft PowerPoint — PowerPoint will introduce you to the magic of creating dynamic, professional presentations. Four sessions will be held Mondays, June 30 to July 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• File Management — An efficient, fast and easy method for organizing your computer files, which can contain hundreds of documents. Four sessions will be held Thursdays, July 3-24 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Practice Time — Practice the material that has been presented in the various courses. Held Thursdays, June 19 to Aug. 7 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Come to Dixieland luncheon July 9
Come and capture the fun spirit of summer with Doctor Dubious and his band Wednesday, July 9 at 1 p.m. at the Tenafly Senior Center. The band will entertain for this post holiday luncheon with New Orleans and Chicago styles of what is commonly called Dixieland Jazz.
The lunch for the afternoon will be fried chicken, potato salad and green salad. The meal will be finished off with a dessert and coffee or tea. The cost is $10.

See ‘American Gangster’ July 11
"American Gangster" will be shown at the Tenafly Senior Center Friday, July 11 at 1 p.m. It is the true story of two extremely dedicated men on opposite sides of the law.
Frank Lucas became the most successful drug supplier in New York. Richie Roberts was an honest cop with an otherwise crooked police force. This drama/thriller stars Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe and Cuba Gooding, Jr. it is rated R and runs 157 minutes.

Learn about heart disease July 15
We all know heart disease is the leading killer in women, causing more deaths than all forms of cancer yet many of us ignore this fact. Early warning signs are often subtle and go unrecognized.
In this lecture Tuesday, July 15 at 11 a.m. at the Tenafly Senior Center, Linda Lohsen, RN of Holy Name Hospital, will discuss symptoms to be alert to as well as ways you can reduce your risk of heart disease. Invest 45 minutes that could prolong your health.
Spring Lake trip set for seniors
The Tenafly Senior Center will have its annual trip to Spring Lake Thursday, July 16. The day will begin with an hour on the Spring Lake boardwalk followed by a leisurely lunch at "The Mill."
After lunch, participants will go to downtown Spring Lake to do some window shopping before they head to Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck for fresh fruits, vegetables and homemade baked goods. The cost is $45.
Learn Tai Chi at senior center
The Tenafly Senior Center is offering six weeks of basic Tai Chi instructions. It will begin Wednesday, July 16 at 10:10 a.m. and will be led by Alan Jacobs.
It will be appropriate for beginners or experienced practitioners wishing to fine-tune their movements.

Senior center movie viewing set
"Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead" will be shown at the Tenafly Senior Center Friday, July 18 at 1 p.m.
The Hanson brothers had money troubles. They had a plan to put them both on easy street by robbing their parent’s suburban jewelry store, which was well insured. The folks wouldn’t be out a penny and no one would be harmed.
However, things went very wrong and they only got worse. This is an intricate web of deceit, betrayal and revenge. Rated R, the film runs 117 minutes.
