Northvale
Local EMT receives special award
Dave Magnotta, Northvale resident and member of the Northvale Ambulance Corp. for 15 years, was honored May 22 by Hackensack University Medical Center and received an award presented by Joseph Feldman, MD, Chairman of Emergency Medicine, and Rosemary Hunt RN, Director of Nursing. Dennis McNerney, Bergen County Executive was also on hand to help with the presentation.
Magnotta has been a member of NVAC and an EMT since 1996 and he rides Thursday nights serving as Crew Chief. A youth sports enthusiast, he has coached in the Northern Valley Junior Football League for the past four years and in that capacity has performed as the "on scene" EMT during games and practices. His on-field presence has given parents a sense of comfort as he diligently monitors all incidents and takes appropriate medical action. His skills in handling sports injuries is widely recognized, and as a result of his presence at football games for three age groups every weekend in the fall, the local ambulance corps are able to remain available for other calls in town.
Off the field, Magnotta has been able to raise thousands of dollars in donations to the NVAC by initiating and overseeing several Texas Hold ’Em fundraisers. The proceeds from these events have enabled the Corps to purchase CPR training supplies and other much needed equipment.
In his workplace at the Bergen County Sewer Authority, Magnotta voluntarily serves as the onsite EMT. Called to action on many occasions, he has also been honored by the county for his assistance to fellow employees.
