Grushkin retires after 39 years
Jean Grushkin of Englewood recently retired after a 39-year career at the Englewood Public Library.
She had been a Paraprofessional in the library’s Reference Department for 37 of her 39 years with the library. She worked her first two years in Technical Services.
Grushkin received numerous Career Service Awards from the City of Englewood during her long career at the library, the latest was a Career Service Award four years ago.
In November 2006, she was honored by the Friends of the Library for outstanding service at a special reception. In 1998, she received a Library of Board of Trustees’ plaque for 30 years of dedicated service to the library and the City of Englewood.
Artists sought for future exhibit shows
The Art Exhibition Committee of the Englewood Public Library is seeking artists and photographers for future shows.
Each prospective exhibitor should submit 10 slides or photos of his or her work, a short résumé/biography, a one-to-three paragraph artist statement and a show theme to: Dick Burnon, Head of Adult Programming and Public Relations, Englewood Public Library, 31 Engle St., Englewood, NJ 07631.
Exhibition stipulations include:
n All drawings, paintings and photographs are to be matted and framed.
n Partisan political and religious matters are prohibited as well as nude figures in exhibits and displays.
n Exhibits in the Library are for a duration of one month. Exhibits must be in place by 2 p.m. on the first day of the month that the library is open and removed by 2 p.m. on the last day of the month.
n It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to install and remove the exhibit.
n The library does not handle sales and does not take any commission. Prices may not be displayed in the exhibit area, but the exhibitor may place a price list in a folder at the Circulation Desk.

Brookside Village art exhibit set
Oils, acrylics and watercolors will be included in the Brookside Village Art Group exhibit and some will be for sale. The exhibit at the Harrington Park Public Library will begin May 1 and include works by Floyd Stevens, a member of the art group who passed away in 2007. The exhibit will be open during regular library hours throughout the month of May.
The Brookside Village Art Group meets Tuesday mornings in one of Brookside’s meeting rooms.
For the past 17 years, the group has been meeting year round starting as an art class and evolving into an independent painting group. New members residing in Brookside Village are always welcome.
Residents to discuss Korea trip
Three members of the New York Philharmonic who live in Haworth will present a slide show and talk about their historic concert in February at the East Pyongyang Grand Theater in Pyongyang, Korea. This presentation will be held Monday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at the Haworth Municipal Library, 300 Haworth Ave. in Haworth.
Mark Nuccio, associate principal clarinetist; Judith LeClair, principal bassoonist; and Cheryl Staples, associate concert master, will share their personal experiences and reflections on their trip to the People’s Republic of Korea.
The concert was the centerpiece of a 48-hour visit that included master classes and a rehearsal open to music students. The members of the Philharmonic also attended a performance by local dancers and musicians and a banquet at the People’s Palace of Culture.

Story hour has openings
The Northvale Public Library invites children 3 to 5 years old to participate in story hour. There are openings for the Thursday morning class, which meets from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. each week. Registration is required. For more information, call the library at 201-768-4784.
Library invites children to story hour
The Northvale Public Library invites children ages 3 to 5 to attend the library weekly story hour.
Each session has a specific theme and includes listening of stories, a craft or singing.
Story hour is held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m.
Parents and guardians must register their child at the library in order to participate and must be Northvale residents.
