Explore themes of Psalm 145 at JCC
Explore the theme of Psalm 145 as it relates to your own emotional and spiritual life July 22 at 8 p.m. Learn with Rabbi Debra Hachen, who was ordained in 1980 from Hebrew Union College in New York.
She served a congregation in Massachusetts until 2004 when she moved to New Jersey to serve as rabbi at Temple Beth El of Northern Valley in Closter. Her areas of special interest in the rabbinate include liturgy, ritual, creative midrash, Israel and meditation.
She is active in the Reform movement, having served on numerous committees of the CCAR and the URJ.
The series is free and open to the public. Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is located on 411 East Clinton Ave. in Tenafly.

Support group for caregivers
A caregiver’s support group for those involved in the care of an older adult who is physically frail or suffering from memory loss is being offered at the JCC on the Palisades.
Support groups take place the second Wednesday and fourth Thursday of the month. The next meeting will be held Thursday, July 24 at 11 a.m. and there will be no Wednesday meeting this month at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, 411 East Clinton Ave., Tenafly.
Information, support and referrals will be discussed. Meetings are free and open to the public. The facility is wheelchair accessible.

Schmooze with singles at the JCC
Spend a casual evening getting to know other singles, ages 40-59, through discussions on various topics determined by the participants at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades.
Events are offered Sundays, July 27 and Aug. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $4 for JCC members and $6 general admission.

Explore Psalm 19 with rabbi in July
Explore the theme of Psalm 19 as it relates to your own emotional and spiritual life July 29 at 8 p.m. Learn with Rabbi Amy Bolton, the director of The Living Room — a health, wellness and healing center at Jewish Family Service of Bergen County.
Programs include bereavement support, a JACS group for Jews in recovery, programs for seniors, support for Holocaust survivors and their families and the Jewish healing programs.
Bolton has also served as a hospice chaplain and taught a variety of adult education courses. She currently serves on the Chaplaincy Committee of UJA — Federation of Northern New Jersey.

Walk at Tallman State Park
Walk with Liz from the JCC on the Palisades at Tallman State Park and Piermont in New York Sunday, Aug. 3 at 9:30 a.m.
Meet at the JCC by 9:30 a.m. for carpooling or at Tallman Park at 10 a.m. Participants will enjoy a casual walk around the park and then to walk to Piermont where they will go out to eat, at their own expense.
Allow three to four hours, wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The event will be cancelled if it rains. It is free except for a carpooling fee.

Learn Psalm 91 with rabbi at JCC
Learn with Rabbi Laurence E. Rothwachs about Psalm 91 Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 8 p.m. at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades. Rabbi Rothwachs is the rabbi of Congregation Beth Aaron in Teaneck.
He is a graduate of Yeshiva College, Azriel Institute for Jew Education and RIETS of Yeshiva University. A past instructor of Talmud at Y.U.’s high school, he currently teaches at the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey.
The next session will be Aug. 12 with Rabbi Jeffrey Fox.

Enroll in Vacation Bible Camp now
The Church of the Atonement is now accepting enrollment for its Vacation Bible Camp taking place from 9:30 a.m. to noon the week of Monday, Aug. 11 through Friday, Aug. 15.
Children in grades K to 5, also known as "wave riders," will learn about important people in the Bible who knew and spoke the truth and practiced what they preached.
The children will be introduced, via DVD presentations, to contemporary missionaries bringing light and hope to people on the islands of Jamaica, Malta, Hawaii, the Philippines and Reunion Island. Daily visits to the Bible Study Beach Hut, Recreation Reef, Music Falls, Craft Cabana and Snack Shack enhance the learning experience.
The weeklong camp will take place at the Church of the Atonement (Episcopal) located on Highwood Avenue at Engle Street in Tenafly. The registration fee of $25 per child, $20 for two or more children per family, includes snacks, crafts and take-home activities.

Singles book review scheduled
Come review the book, "Manless in Montclaire" with author Amy Edelman Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the JCC on the Palisades. A single mom at 41 realizes that it’s time to put on some lipstick and find a new man.
This humorous and heartwarming story of Isabel’s quest to put her life back together follows her on a journey through the modern world of online dating, single parenthood and arranged dinner parties and speed dating. This is story of love, loss and finding your place in the world.

Progressive dinner set at In Napoli
Join singles of all ages from the JCC on the Palisades for dinner and socializing Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at In Napoli in Fort Lee.
The menu includes one free drink, salad, choice of entrée (including fish and pasta), coffee and dessert. The cost is $26 if paid by Aug. 18 and $29 after. The price includes tax and gratuities.

Adult computer lessons offered
Learn to work with your computer at the JCC Computer Center, or in the comfort of your own home. You will learn what you want to learn, at your own pace. Classes specialize in everything from Apples to Windows, Access to Web design.
Irene Carleton is an instructor who has been teaching for more than 30 years. She is equally at home with both PC and MAC platforms and her skills run the gamut from Apple Works to WordPerfect, and all the Microsofts in between.
Her computer teaching skills have been honed by IBM, St. Thomas Aquinas College, CCTC Computer training at Berkeley College, among others.
The cost is $60 for JCC members and $72 for non-members, per hour. Geographical restrictions apply to home visits.
