Senior group encourages participation
Residents of Closter and the surrounding towns over 60 years of age are invited to join the borough’s senior group. Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays each month at 1 p.m. and movies are shown once a month. Bingo games are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays.
The group’s building is located behind Closter Borough Hall.

St. Mary's announces 2008 trips
St. Mary’s Golden Agers has set its 2008 trip schedule.
The Spirit of Philadelphia lunch cruise and park casino is scheduled for May 16 at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $77.
A trip to Mt. Haven Country Resort in Mt. Haven, Penn. for breakfast and dinner, activities, floor show and four hour open bar will be June 10 at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $60.
On July 17, seniors can go to New Haven, Conn. To visit the Knights of Columbus Museum, St. Mary’s Church and have lunch at the waterside at Sage Grill, formerly the Chart House.
On Aug. 14, a trip to Our Lady of Czestochow is scheduled at 7:45 a.m. The cost is $49.
On Sunday, Sept. 21, an Atlantic City fundraiser is planned at 8:30 a.m.
For Octoberfest, seniors can go to the Brownstone for lunch, a show and one-hour open bar on Oct. 16. The cost is $60 and the bus leaves at 10 a.m.
On Dec. 4, a New York City of Lights tour is scheduled for noon. The cost is $69.

Center offers watercolor classes
The Cresskill Senior Center, located at 78 Spring St., will be offering watercolor painting classes every Tuesday from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. from April 8 to June 10.
The price for seniors is $60. There will be different subjects weekly with demos. Beginners are welcome.

The Cresskill Senior Center is accepting registration for sketching classes, which will be given on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon, April 10 through June 12.

Senior citizens club posts events
The Cresskill Senior Citizen Club has the following events scheduled for this year:
n May 14 – Doolan’s, Spring Lake, for a "Honolulu Baby-Hawaiian Luan."
n July 16 – Lake Hopatcong, for a "Boardwalk Barbeque."
n Oct. 15 – Paltz Brauhaus, Pomona, N.Y. for a "Golden Octoberfest."
Group supports Alzheimer's caregivers
CareOne at Dunroven will offer free monthly support groups for primary and secondary caregivers of loved ones affected with Alzheimer’s disease.
Karen Angrist, MSW, LSW, will lead the support group which will meet the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at CareOne at Dunroven. Angrist, trained by the Alzheimer’s Association, is a social worker and has assisted caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients for the past 10 years. She will speak about the following topics:
n Alzheimer’s Disease and its symptoms
n What to expect
n Latest research and newest treatment
n Quality of life for caregivers and individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, from diagnosis to end of life.
Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive brain disorder that gradually destroys a person’s memory and ability to learn, reason, make judgments, communicate and carry out daily activities. As Alzheimer’s progresses, individuals may also experience changes in personality and behavior, such as anxiety, suspiciousness or agitation, as well as delusions or hallucinations.

Painting classes are being held
Watercolor painting classes have resumed each Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Cresskill Senior Center, 78 Spring St.
All beginners and intermediate students are welcome. A list of materials will be given out – come ready to paint. Every week will be a different subject.
Beginners will be given necessary help and instructions.
