The event runs from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Rockleigh Country Club, 20 Paris Ave. in Rockleigh. There will also be basket raffles and a number of items up for silent auction. The 2008 Merritt Memorial School gala is a night for the Merritt School community and friends to come out and show its support while having fun and spending time with good friends. All proceeds from the gala will be used for a new playground so the students of Merritt and children in the surrounding community will have a safe place to play. This presentation is for parents only. Local police departments will be represented. Time will be provided for questions, and refreshments will be served following the presentations. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend as the issues relate to all children at various stages of one’s high school career. The foundation’s goals are to advance child protection and victims’ rights issues and help poor, abused, neglected or homeless youth attain productive lives. The proceeds of this fundraiser will go toward providing fun excursions for the poor and homeless youth of the Father English Center in Paterson and Youth Haven in Passaic. The rain date is May 18. The day will include food, music, rides, face painting, caricatures and shopping. The Garage Theater Group will be doing kid’s acting workshops and improv. Tech DIY involves a holistic process of mothers and daughters learning electronics together and sharing this with others. Tech DIY will offer alternative views of how mothers and their children relate to technology. Children will see that women can understand and be creative with technology. There is a $20 material fee. Examples include functional vessels and pots, mixed media sculpture, watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings, drawings in colored pencil, graphite or charcoal, collage, hand-pulled prints, art quilts, handmade felt, crocheted or knitted wearables, jewelry and lampworked glass beads.
