Closter

Community leaders honored
David Grubin, creator of the PBS series "The Jewish Americans," will moderate a panel discussion based on his documentary at the Jewish Theological Seminary’s 2008 New Jersey Regional Dinner. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22 and take place at Temple Emanu-El, 180 Piermont Road in Closter.
Community leaders Jack and Lynne Hendler of Closter and Rabbi Joel Roth of Teaneck will be honored at the event.
The Hendlers will receive the Erich Holzer Community Service Award, which honors the achievements and memory of Erich Holzer, a long-standing and prominent community leader.
The son of Holocaust survivors, Jack Hendler, over the course of nearly four decades, founded several companies, most notably Net Worth Solutions, an investment banking firm that specializes in mergers and acquisitions for consumer products and retail. He also served in many senior executive positions in the retail, commercial real estate, and fashion industries. As an active member of Temple Emanu-El, Lynne Greenwald Hendler has lent her leadership skills to various committees and events, including this year’s very successful fashion show. Like her husband, she is a lifetime ORT and B’nai B’rith member, and helps advance numerous charitable causes.
Rabbi Joel Roth will receive the Rabbi Louis Finkelstein Rabbinic Leadership Award, presented in honor of the former chancellor, Louis Finkelstein. JTS presents this award for exemplary leadership and dedication to klal Yisrael through service to the greater Jewish community and JTS.
Rabbi Roth is Louis Finkelstein Professor of Talmud and Jewish Law at JTS. He also serves as chair of the Department of Hebrew Language and as Rosh Yeshiva of the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem. An expert in halakhah (Jewish law), Roth was appointed to the Committee on Jewish Law and Standards in 1978 and served until December 2006, including a period of eight years as chair.
Tickets are $225 per person. The reservation deadline is May 19 or April 30 for journal ads. For more information and reservations, contact Rebekah Raz, JTS New Jersey Regional Director, at 212-678-8935 or reraz@jtsa.edu.
