English classes available for all
TENAFLY — Tenafly Senior Center is beginning a new series of English conversation classes for foreign-born adult men and women of all ages. These sessions are held Friday mornings at 10 a.m. and are offered in small groups and on a one-to-one basis.
If you know of someone who may be interested in improving their conversational or reading skills (some knowledge of English is required), call the center at 201-569-2159.
The only charge for the program is a one-time cost of $15 for the weekly newsletter the students use. The center is located at 20 South Summit St., off of Washington Street in Tenafly.

Rally and flea market held weekly
ENGLEWOOD — Every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Boys to Men organization will host its "Save the Planet Awareness Rally and Flea Market" at the Elk's Lodge, 17 Bennett Road in Englewood. Visitors can find some great bargains, like brand name items, vintage items, arts and crafts and environmental and health education items.
The day includes music, games, food and a car wash. The Save the Planet Awareness portion is co-sponsored by Kids against Pollution (KAP), and the Department of Environmental Protection.
There will be representatives from both organizations at the flea market to provide information and answer questions about simple life changes we can make to preserve our planet.

Adult guidance counseling offered
ENGLEWOOD — Women’s Rights Information Center offers Guidance Counseling for Adults Tuesday evenings, by appointment only. A $10 donation is suggested for a one-hour consultation with Susan Biro EdD, dean of online education at Berkeley College.
Dr. Biro will guide adults hoping to bridge the gap between wanting to go back to school and actually making it happen.
If budgeting for continuing education is a concern, Biro can suggest scholarships and financial aid funds that might be available. With answers to these and other questions about educational goals and circumstances, participants can make informed decisions about continuing their education.

Join Drawing the Environment series
Englewood — Elaine Smollin will provide instruction in landscape drawing, focusing on cultivating raw talent and the appreciation of the natural world through landscape drawing. She will teach participants about the ecological assemblage and the cultural histories inherent in the landscapes within Flat Rock Brook’s 150 acres.

The cost per session, per student is $100 for one student; $80 for groups of two to four; and $60 per session for groups of five and over. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Flat Rock Brook’s programs. The program will include four two-hour sessions for adults, dates and time to be determined.

Cell phone drive has new drop-off spots
NORTHERN VALLEY — The Woman’s Club of Norwood and Northvale announces two new drop-off spots for its cell phone and ink cartridge drive.
Westy Storage at 95 Hudson Ave., Norwood and MinuteMan Press at 169 Paris Ave., Northvale have recently become the newest drop-off spots for this worthy cause.
All used cell phones and personal printer ink cartridges are collected and forwarded to a recycling company. The phones are reprogrammed for 911 use only for those that need access to 911 emergency services.
Remove personal information and the battery from cell phones before donating them. For more information, call Joan at 201-768-3993.

Cellphones for soldiers collection
NORTHVALE — The Woman’s Club of Norwood-Northvale can use old, unwanted cellphones.
The profits from the sale of phones and cartridges enables the Woman’s Club or Norwood-Northvale to continue to aid those in need of assistance, and help the families of the Teaneck Armory military men and women bound for war in Iraq.
These phones are refurbished so that they can be reused by many organizations. The refurbished phones have helped victims of violent crimes, seniors and crossing guards.
They are re-programmed for 9-1-1 use in the event of an emergency.
Drop off sites for phones and ink cartridges include the Northvale Borough Hall at 116 Paris Ave. on the first floor stairway, D’Ercole Farms, PNC Bank and the Greek Village.

Microsoft tutorials offered for women
ENGLEWOOD — Women’s Rights Information Center continues to offer its ongoing 10-week Computer Tutorials for Keyboarding, Data Entry and Microsoft Office applications. The cost is $75 per tutorial or $1,500 for the complete program.
Designed for those who prefer to work independently at their own pace or who require a flexible training schedule, Computer Tutorials is an interactive computer-based program that offers an effective alternative for improving and assessing computer knowledge and skills.
Programs include Expert Typing, Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel or PowerPoint), QWIZ Software Skill Assessments and MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) Test Preparation Review.

Rapid Resume service available for women
ENGLEWOOD — Rapid Resume is a cost-effective, timesaving service available at Women’s Rights Information Center in Englewood. A typical two-hour meeting with Job Search Counselor Juanita Turner begins with a needs analysis followed by an interactive writing session and a tailored, professional resume.
A $50 donation is requested to support the center’s free and low-cost programs and services.
Morning and afternoon appointments are available every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
With nearly 20 years as a job search specialist, Turner, a Carlstadt resident, has written thousands of resumes and critiqued hundreds more at events sponsored by the North Jersey Media Group. She has conducted seminars at Jobcircle’s "Celebrate Diversity" career fairs and has been a resume consultant to the Teaneck Jewish Family Service’s Job Search Network.
