Halloween home decorating contest
TENAFLY — Tenafly Recreation has announced its first annual Halloween Home Decorating Contest. All Tenafly residents are invited to participate by decorating their homes in the tradition of Halloween.
The Recreation Department staff will judge homes on uniqueness, creativity and overall presentation. Judging will take place the week of Oct. 27 with one grand prize being awarded Friday, Oct. 31.
To participate, register your name, home address and phone number with the Recreation Department no later than Friday, Oct. 24. Registration will be accepted by phone at 201-871-3008, e-mail at crouxnafly.net or in the Recreation Office at 100 Riveredge Road.

Lions Club golf outing
HARRINGTON PARK — The Harrington Park Lions Club will hold its annual fall golf classic Friday, Oct. 24 at the New York Country Club in Spring Valley, N.Y.
This event is a best ball-foursome format and will begin with breakfast, registration and practice range from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
The 9:30 a.m. tee-off for 18 holes of golf will be followed by lunch, putting contest, cocktails and an awards dinner.
Very valuable prizes such as a new car, trips, cruises and others will be available for the hole-in-one, longest drive, straightest drive and closet to pin contests in addition to raffles and 50/50 offerings.
Proceeds will benefit Lions Club charities, scholarships, community outreach activities and many others. Sponsorship and player opportunities are still available but filling up quickly.

Oct. 25
Fourth annual 5K run scheduled
NORWOOD — More than 300 runners are expected to take part in the Norwood Runners Association’s fourth annual Norwood 5K Run Saturday, Oct. 25, rain or shine.
Net proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Norwood Public Library and other recipients.
Runners and walkers will gather at Kennedy Field behind Borough Hall off Broadway before the 9:30 a.m. start of the race. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. There will also be a fun run for kids at 10:30 a.m. and an awards presentation at 10:45 a.m. The course is certified by the NJ USATF as fast and flat. Timing and scoring will be by Best Racing Systems.
Awards will be presented to the top three male and female runners, top five male and female Norwood residents and the top runners in a dozen different age and gender groups. All participants will receive a T-shirt and a race packet while supplies last. There will be post-race refreshments.
Pre-race registration at $20 per runner will be accepted until Oct. 20. Make checks payable to Norwood Runners Association. Mail to 50 Adams St., Norwood, NJ 07648.

Residents can get pets rabies vaccines
NORTHVALE — The Northvale Board of Health is sponsoring its Annual Rabies Clinic Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the DPW building, 195 Paris Ave., Northvale.
Dogs will be vaccinated between 9 and 10 a.m. and must be leashed. Cats will be vaccinated between 10 and 10:30 a.m. and must be in a carrier.
Dr. Hess from Old Tappan Veterinary will be administering the vaccines. All residents of the state are welcome.

Parade and pumpkin painting contest set
CRESSKILL — Cresskill Recreation will hold its annual Rag-A-Muffin Parade and pumpkin painting contest Saturday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. starting at Ackerman Field adjacent to Cresskill Borough Hall.
The Rag-A-Muffin Parade will march to the Cresskill Community Center where refreshments will be served to all and candy and various treats distributed to all the children. All Cresskill residents, infants to adults, are welcome to join in the fun.
In case of rain, the parade will be at the Cresskill Community Center, 100 Third St. Following the parade, the pumpkin painting contest will take place in the Community Center for children from kindergarten through fifth grade.
All contestants must register at Borough Hall or the Community Center before Oct. 21 and bring their own pumpkin that day. Everyone who participates will receive a special gift, and trophies will be awarded for the best pumpkin. Activities are open to Cresskill residents only.

Residents can come to Norwood Day
NORWOOD — The Borough of Norwood will be celebrating its Inaugural Norwood Day Saturday, Oct. 25 at Kennedy Field on Broadway.
A ragamuffin parade at noon sponsored by the Norwood Fire Department will begin the activities.
Games, entertainment and food will be on site. Merchants, town clubs and organizations will have tables in addition to the vendors.

Residents can go to annual Fall Bazaar
TENAFLY — The St. Thomas Armenian Church Annual Fall Bazaar will be held Saturday, Oct. 25 from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 26 from noon to 6 p.m.
The bazaar will take place on church premises, located at the corner of East Clinton Avenue and Route 9W in Tenafly. The bazaar is held indoors and admission and parking are free.
A variety of booths, including jewelry, toys, books, handcrafts and boutique gift items for pre-Christmas shopping will present a wide selection of exciting merchandise. For interested vendors, some booths are still available by calling the church office at 201-567-5446 or 845-359-4855.
Delicious authentic Armenian foods will be available, including shish kebab, luleh kebab, chicken kebab, pilaf, cheese pie (boreg), sou boreg, kufteh, manti, stuffed grape leaves and much more.
In addition, the gourmet booth will offer homemade, scrumptious delicacies and pastries such as baklava, katayif and bourma. Some foods such as "manti" and "harpoot kufte" cannot be obtained even in Armenian restaurants.
All foods may be enjoyed on premises or packaged for "take-out" convenience. You can also enjoy your dining experience in our spacious halls while listening or dancing to Armenian music provided by our DJ.
Children will enjoy carnival rides, bouncers, face painting, temporary tattoos, sand art, cotton candy, games and much more. A special attraction this year will be a performance by the Akh’Tamar Dance Ensemble of St. Thomas and the Antranig Dance Ensemble of the AGBU.
Both ensembles are very accomplished and deliver a high degree of excellence and artistry. A variety of valuable raffle prizes such as 32-inch TVs, a notebook computer and Apple iPod will add to the excitement of the two-day event. The winners will be announced at the raffle drawing Sunday afternoon during the bazaar.

Nursery school Fall Festival
DEMAREST — Demarst Cooperative Nursery School will hold its second annual Fall Festival Oct. 25 at 109 Hardenburgh Ave., Demarest.
Crafts, food, baked goods, Mrs. Wonderwhy Science Show, science experiment crafts, pumpkins and a haunted school house will be available.

Spagetti Dinner and Tricky Tray Event
OLD TAPPAN — Trinity Reformed Church, located at 292 Old Tappan Road, Old Tappan, will be having it’s first annual Spaghetti Dinner and Tricky Tray Event in Fellowship hall from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. There will be Italian music, a spaghetti and meatball dinner, bread, salad, dessert and coffee for $8 per person; $5 for kids 10 and under.
Eat in or call in advance for take out. The Tricky Tray event prizes are donated by local businesses and theme baskets put together by the church. All proceeds from the Tricky Tray will benefit the local Food Bank. This is an open event to encourage the surrounding communities to attend a fun filled evening.

Rainbow Pumpkin Dance scheduled
RIDGEWOOD — The second annual Rainbow Pumpkin Dance will be held Saturday, Oct. 25. Doors open at 7 p.m. There will be a DJ and dancing until 11 p.m.
Admission is $10 with high school ID required. The location is Christ Episcopal Church, Cottage Place, Ridgewood. The dance is chaperoned and is for high school LGBTQI teens and their allies and friends. The theme will be "Remembering the 80s" — come dressed as your favorite 80s star.
The Bergen County PFLAG chapter has been an ongoing sponsor of the Rainbow Cafe Coalition since its beginning nearly 18 months ago and has donated an additional $500 to ensure the success of this event.
