Oct. 18
Visit the Haunted Forest
TENAFLY — Meet Tenafly Nature Center resident Mitzi the Barred Owl and friends Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19, while learning about several live creatures of the night and their special adaptations.
Participants will receive treats as they journey along the one-hour tour and meet several special nighttime visitors.
Tours begin at 6 p.m. and continue every 15 minutes until 8 p.m. Guests are invited to enjoy refreshments around the campfire before and after tours.
The program is entertaining and educational, not scary and is perfect for people of all ages who love animals.
The center is located at 313 Hudson Ave., Tenafly. Advance registration is required. The cost for members is $5 each and $10 for nonmembers.

Tenafly High School 20th reunion set
TENAFLY — The 20th reunion for Tenafly High School Class of 1988 will be Saturday, Oct. 18 at The Clinton Inn, Tenafly at 7 p.m. The cost is $120 per person.

Oct. 19
Youth Consultation Service walk set
ALPINE — Stroll along the bridal path on the majestic Palisades and raise funds for a year-round camp for hundreds of children in YCS safe havens Oct. 19.
Breakfast from Starbucks, live music, silent auction and free treats for the kids will be available. Registration is $15 for individuals and $25 per family. It includes a free "Walk for YCS" T-shirt, bottle of water and apple.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. All of the proceeds benefit YCS and the Big Camp campaign. To register and download pledge sheets, visit

The event will occur rain or shine. The Walk for YCS is sponsored by the Friends of YCS — a group of dedicated individuals who are committed to raising the funds for securing and maintaining a camp for the children in the care of YCS throughout the Garden State.

Come to yard sale fundraiser
TENAFLY — There will be a yard sale on the grounds of the Franciscan Sisters, 253 Knickerbocker Road, Tenafly, Sunday, Oct. 19 and Monday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Home, Green Home lecture scheduled
TENAFLY — There will be a lecture entitled "Home, Green Home" about global warming at the Kaplen JCC
Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m.
Rabbi Lawrence Troster, director of the Fellowship program and Rabbinic Scholar-in-Residence for GreenFaith, the Interfaith Environmental Coalition in the state, will provide a basic overview of global warming.
Rabbi Troster will share his expertise on living a "green" lifestyle and present the Jewish perspective. Lori Bongiorno, author of "Green, Greener, Greenest," will address the issue of "Green Noise," – how to navigate the myriad and confusing information about "greening."
The discussion will be moderated by Rabbi Jeffrey Fox, spiritual leader of Kehillat Kesher in Tenafly and Englewood.
The event is sponsored by the Berit and Martin Bernstein Open Forum Endowment Fund and sponsored with the Judaic Department. It is free and open to the community.

Discover how some human activities make life tough for the diurnally challenged and enjoy refreshments around the campfire. The program is entertaining and educational, not scary; perfect for people of all ages who love animals.
The program will be held Oct. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. Every 15 minutes small groups depart with a guide from the parking area to meet the forest folk. It will be held rain or shine. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers. Children under 2 are free. No strollers are permitted.

Embroidery Guild meeting scheduled
ALLENDALE — The Bergen Chapter of the Embroidery Guild of America will hold its next meeting in Allendale, in the Red Barn of Guardian Angel Church, corner of Allendale Avenue and Franklin Turnpike.Ann Hutcheon will present a program and workshop on knots. Annual concert for the arts kicks off
CRESSKILL — Northern Valley residents are invited Monday, Oct. 20 to the annual Cresskill Education Foundation Concert for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. in the Cresskill Jr./Sr. auditorium for a performance by Cresskill’s own professional musicians.
There will be some big band style numbers, including some Brazilian jazz. The performances are handpicked by the musicians.
In the first half of the show, there is Mozart, Beethoven, Lizst and Tchaikovsky. After a brief intermission, the show ends with a grand finale.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children and seniors. Tickets purchased at the door cost an extra $5.
All Cresskill students may purchase tickets at the schools. Tickets are also sold at the local North Jersey Community Bank, Hudson Drug and Cresskill Borough Hall. Tickets can also be ordered by sending a check payable to the Cresskill Education Foundation, Box 445, Cresskill, NJ, 07626.
