The seminar will focus on teaching children basic bully prevention skills through interactive skits, demonstrations and crowd participation for both children and adults, all conducted by the black belt instructors of Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts.
These fun and educational activities will teach children how to avoid and discourage bullying, what to do when encountering a bullying situation, how to communicate bullying situations to teachers and family, how to handle physical confrontations and how to be confident in a non-aggressive way.
Parents will also be coached on how to identify signs that their child is being bullied, how to keep the lines of communication open on the subject of bullying and will be provided information on bullying resources.
This free seminar is part of the Tiger Schulmann’s CHILDSAFE Program, established in 1992 as a program designed to teach awareness about child safety in our communities and to encourage communication between parents and children about these vital issues.
Parents should call Tiger Schulmann’s of Northvale at 201-768-2751 for more information and to reserve space for their child in this free seminar.

Residents can take a cemetery tour
CLOSTER — Closter’s secluded historic Naugle/Auryansen Cemetery will be open for visitors to tour, in conjunction with the nearby Harvest Festival at MacBain Farm on Hickory Lane Saturday, Oct. 18 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Tim Adriance, Bergen County historian and keeper of the cemetery — where many of his ancestors are buried — will recount stories of their lives and of the lifestyles of the earliest settlers of Closter.
A great history lesson for children, this graveyard held its first burial in 1722 and contains the graves of six Revolutionary War soldiers and one from the War of 1812. The gravestones bear the familiar names from Closter’s history — Naugle, Auryansen, Tallman, Vervalen, Blauvelt and Bogert.
In addition, the cemetery contains two "boundary stones" hand carved with the initials "BN" and "RN" which were placed by the Naugle brothers (Barent and Resolvent) when the property was surveyed and divided in 1748.
The cemetery is located at the end of a wood-chip pathway leading off the long driveway at 75 and 83 Hickory Lane. There is public access via easement on this driveway. The site is marked by a blue historical marker on Hickory Lane, on the North side of the road.
From Susan Drive (off Ruckman Road), enter the cemetery by walking up a grassy hill between 42 and 50 Susan Drive, on the south side of the road. There will be signs at the curb to mark the event.
Admission is free. Cider and doughnuts will be served.
For more information about the cemetery and about Closter’s history, visit www.closterhistoricpreservation.org. For more information about this event, call Irene Stella at 201-768-2935.
