Genealogy, family history program
The Norwood Public Library is presenting a special program, "Genealogy and Family History" by Margaret Kaiser, Wednesday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m.
The program will give an overview for searching personal family history. Basic search tools and methodology for learning who their ancestors are, where they lived and what their home language was will be reviewed. The library is also currently featuring a display by the Genealogical Society of Bergen County.
Kaiser is vice president and trustee of the Genealogical Society of Bergen County. This spring, she taught a genealogy course for the Institute for Learning in Retirement at Bergen Community College.
This program will be held in the Norwood Public Library conference room. Because seating is limited, reservations are required. Call 201-768-9555 or sign up at the library, 198 Summit St. in Norwood.

New library director named
The Board of Trustees of the Norwood Public Library has announced the appointment of Siobhan Koch as director of the library. She succeeds David Beckman, who passed away on Jan. 1 after 12 years in the position.
Koch, who lives in Fair Lawn with her husband Brad and their 9-month-old son, Aidan, has been a library employee since 1997, most recently serving as circulation supervisor, head of technical services and assistant to Beckman. She also has enjoyed leading a book discussion club for students in the fourth through eighth grade.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y., in 2000 and is planning to begin studies toward a Master of Library Science degree beginning in September. She previously worked for the Northvale Public Library and for the Dixon Homestead Library in Dumont.
The library also announced the re-appointment of Robert Fitzmaurice and the appointment of Dorothy Collins to 3-year terms as members of the Board of Trustees. There is one vacancy on the board at this time and local residents are invited to indicate their interest in serving by addressing a letter to the Board c/o Norwood Public Library, 198 Summit St., Norwood, NJ 07648.

Knitting club meets Thursdays
The Norwood Public Library announces that the Busy Fingers Knitting and Crocheting Club continues its good works every Thursday at 11 a.m. Members gather to crochet or knit a variety of projects for charity.
Tea is served, and members share craft tips and other information as the work.
New members are welcome. Call 201-768-9555 to register or for more information.
The Norwood Public Library is located at 198 Summit St.

Adult program line-up
The Norwood Public Library, 198 Summit St., is now accepting sign-ups for two new adult craft and book discussion programs. Those interested may register either in person or via phone.
The first new program seeks knitters or crocheters who would like to use their skills to make projects for charitable groups such as Hats 4 the Homeless, Knits for Infants and Knit for Katrina Blanket Project. In addition to being a great way to meet others with the same love of knitting and crocheting, the group also will provide a valuable service for people in need. Participants may meet and work together at the library or work individually at home. Days and times will be selected based on the availability of the majority of registrants.
The second new program is a daytime book discussion for adults. The library currently is in the 10th year of its highly popular evening book discussion for adults and would like to offer book lovers who might find daytime discussions more convenient in the morning or early afternoon.
Registration is open to both Norwood residents and non-residents. For further information or to sign up for either or both of these programs, contact the Norwood Public Library at 201-768-9555.
